McGowan Marine Design was opened in 2001 from our home in Mochelle, near the historic town of Annapolis Royal - about a 30 minute drive from Joshua Slocum's birthplace.  I'm also active in environment and peace issues, community sports, and run marathons.  An article explaining my work is found in the Westlawn magazine “The Masthead”.

I've drawn and dreamt of boats and water since a kid and graduated from the Westlawn School of Yacht Design at the age of 22. I learned a lot from books by British designers (it’s what was in the main library in London, Ontario in the ‘70s) but especially from some of the multihull pioneers: Newick, Brown, Cross, CSK, Shuttleworth, Kelsall, Crowther, Nicol, Harris, the Gougeon Brothers, Irens, VPLP .... Tabarly!  Since then work has included - among other things: sailing, finish carpentry, Sea Urchin diving (commercial fishing), organic gardening, and organic farm inspecting.
